We are cracking down on students turning up to school late this year and I'm trying to find the best way to record this in sims. When a student is late for school they automatically get a 30 minute detention that day

So I need to find a way if possible of assigning a Behaviour Incident to a student with an attendance make of L

I know staff can right click on a student on the register and "Add Behaviour" but I didn't know if there was a way of searching for all students with an L mark then assigning the Behaviour Incident to them

Is there then a way of bulk assigning the same students to a Detention in sims

At the moment teaching staff are doing their registers and marking students with an L if they are late

An admin person is checking the L marks and then adding the Behaviour incidents to these students

We then have a separate person that then creates a register of students that are late so that staff have a register for the daily detention (This is currently done manually and we don't currently use the sims detention for this)

I am looking for a way of either automating the process or simplifying it, if possible

Not sure there is a way of doing it with sims behaviour based on mark but you could make a report in sims to get the mark and just give you a list of kids that have the L code. Will only need you to specify today’s date when you run it and might save time. Plus will give you your register of kids in the DT in an excel spreadsheet.

I seem to recall SIMS Detentions being very... odd, and hard to work with programmatically. The idea of running a daily report of "L" marks that day as a detention register seems eminently sensible however, and should save some time.

You can automated this process in PARS; been doing that for many years including automating behaviour points / awards. Lots of intervention which can save time. Our new TALAXY Cloud staff/parent/pupil solution also allows rule based detentions. As this starts at £800 a year, it may be the most costs effective option. Pop me a PM or email [email protected] We do sponsor a page on Edugeek hence allowed to mention :)

I would recommend moving off of SIMS for this. Our school currently uses a report that is run off SIMS at the end of the week, and that gets uploaded onto BehaviourWatch (you can assign detentions in bulk) and BW sends texts to parents. Seems pretty effective. The whole fact that BW can send texts home (without us having to type it in separately on CallParents) was the main reason we switched.
