How durable is an Eee PC?

Is the Eee PC robust enough to be seriously considered as a suitable device to give to every student in a secondary school for use in school and at home?

 

How durable is it compared to a typical laptop?

 

How long do you think they would survive in your school?

They are certainly a bit more durable than your average every day laptop due to being solid state and a lot harder to drop for younger pupils due to size.

Personally I reckon the staff will bork them first!!

The battery on our test one died after 4 weeks. That's weeks sitting in my cupboard doing nowt whilst switched off.

lot better for me, small enough that they can take impact and no moving bits like catches to break. mine regularly falls off my bed onto the floor without much hassle.

 

i think if you buy it with insruance you should be suitably covered for all but the most melicious damage. i know rm offer this, but otehr companies might as well.

The one I've held seems robust enough the plastic doesn't appear to be brittle and the screen is well protected in it's surround.

 

The bonus of having no moving hard drive means that can't get damaged by shocks either.

We've had one floating around our Learning Support department since Easter, not long i know, but no problems with it being around the site daily. Yes battery life isn't that great but as for it being durable it's doing ok so far.
