FWBD Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Wasn't quite sure where else to post this.. Has anyone got any experience of VR/AR in classrooms? We're trying to look at alternative ways of teaching in the classroom and this was one of the options that was thrown at me. We're experimenting with AR on iPads at the moment which is going down well but perhaps look at getting either some phones and Google Cardboard or maybe a full VR headset, Any suggestions or examples would be appreciated
DrBeaker Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 We had Google come in at my last place once and demoed some kit apparently. We weren't that involved with it though. From a lot of schools point of view - we're still using kit that should have long been retired out of use. So I can't see the VR aspect of "edtech" becoming a reality anytime soon, when the "new" computers I have to install are already over 5x years old.
steveg Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 We use a small set of VR headsets from Classvr, the same company that make learnpads. I found their learnpads to be terrible, but the VR kit is actually ok, nicely wrapped up in an easy to manage package, ideal for primary school.
saggu Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 We use both here. I like their Learnpad as well. easy to manage on the portal.
GrahamBowman Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 Hi FWBD I've used Google Expeditions and ClassVR quite extensively. I'm happy to have a chat with you about VR in general and the pros and cons of each system. 1
Brimstone Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 If your teachers want some fantasic AR ideas using iPads follow @paulhamilton8 on Twitter
mavhc Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 Can't really work with a whole class, a) buying 30 is expensive, b) the wifi won't keep up. 1
Brimstone Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 I personally believe that as the ClassVR sets only do one thing and are expensve, schools should not be buying them. Far better to use a good AR app on a tablet (you know which one I prefer) Apps such as AR Makr are also free. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ar-makr/id1434081130
