Google Classroom and Cover Supervisors

Can anyone who uses Google Classroom tell me how you deal with Cover Supervisors who may need access to every classroom?

We use Salamander to generate our Google Classrooms from SIMS and we do have a way to add Extra staff to Classrooms but adding Cover Supervisors to every classroom would be one heck of a long list of classes that would pop up when they log in.

 

Would be interested to know how others deal with this. Thanks

Google Apps Manager (GAM) will almost certainly provide a solution. They'll be a learning curve - it's command line but has good functionality.

You can ask the teachers of the classroom to add the cover supervisors or use GAM to do this yourself.

 

We're actually creating specific cover classrooms this year for each subject. The teachers of the subjects will be teachers of the classroom with all other teachers being students. For example, Languages will have a classroom for cover work. The languages staff will be teachers and all other teaching staff will be students. We also add the cover supervisors as students to these classes.

I think you may have misunderstood. We have no problems adding staff into classrooms. When Cover Supervisors cover a class, inevitably the work is on Google Classroom, the Cover Supervisor wont have access to that particular Google Classroom. The question I am being asked is can I add Cover Supervisors to every Google Classroom in the School for year 7-11. That would be around 130 classes. Adding them is not the problem, to me it just seems there must be a better solution out there.

I'm not sure there is a better way for what you want. That's why this year we're creating specific cover classes for subjects. This means we only require 1 extra class per subject that everyone has access to.

I can see the logic in this. Assigning cover teacher, or even supervisor, to all the classes seems a bit heavy. For pre-arranged cover, perhaps the teacher could just add the teacher, but then you are left with the unplanned cover. We did have a situation where we had a standard user for cover teachers, but I did raise GDPR concerns. So, unfortunately no real other ideas - let's see if Roger has some magic to offer.
