Ric: The one I have has USB and eSATA on the back and 2 USB Ports on the front (built in USB hub basically)

I meant so that you could plug two SATA disks in at once!

...I knew I'd seen one when I had a shufti:

Here you go!

Now, if there was something like that that handled IDE as well...

(I know there are those corded things - I use one quite a lot - but those docks are so much neater).

Now....I have more IDE drives laying around than I do SATA....Is there an easy way of converting IDE to SATA so that they can be used in this dock?

Despite the fact that this guy seems to think IDE docks exist, I'm having a job finding anything that looks that simple to use. The nearest thing I could find was a range of products from IcyDock that don't seem as quick to use (too close to enclosures), and will only do 3.5" or 2.5". Guess I'll stick to my cable until such time as it's predominantly SATA that I have to deal with :(.

Just seen this, it has an adaptot that allows quite a few connections sata, ata etc. Could be usefull having them all in one place.

Serial ATA to USB 2.0 Cable Adapter

Anyone know what would be best to use if I wanted to fit a SATA drive in my PC that only has ATA\ide drives in. Don't want to use an external drive as above so would consider extra card or adaptor. Seen a few after searching the web but just after others suggestions.

This item should do what you require for IDE:

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Although IDE isn't hot-swap, the USB part of it is.

So long as you go through the right procedure when you've finished, you can just unplug the USB and disconnect the power.

i have just got one of these as well as the SATA Dock.....used it once so far and it looks like a great bit of kit.

Cheers Gibbo

Ebuyer have this :

Plexus Hard Drive Black Plastic IDE Removeable Tray Caddy with Lock - Ebuyer

which isn't quite the same thing but darn close for IDE/PATA. It takes up a 5.25 inch slot on pc. basically a CD drive slot. connects internally, then the tray itself on the inside has an old school Parallel / Centronix connector like on the back of old printers. so you can swap the tray out and put in another one. Not hot swap, but easy enough anyway.

I don't think you can buy spare trays, but we ended up buying lots of these units and then discarding the mount units. Pre loading the trays with IDE HDDs and then using the array of trays for backups that can be easily taken home. the one left in the unit can be locked in too. works pretty good for only £4.

Ebuyer also have the SATA dock as mentioned previously like at maplins however just a basic one for around £20. no thrills or card reader, but does the job.

Hope that helps someone...:)
