Office for home use.

Hi All,

 

We have the scheme where we can get office at a cheaper price through Microsoft Home Use Program through the school.

 

However they have discontinued the local install of office and only pushing Office 365 which wont be helpful in the situation Office is needed.

 

Does anyone else know of a scheme or where I can buy Office relatively cheap?

All our staff and students get Office 365 on up to 5 devices for free via our A1 Plus licence until such time as they leave the school (or we revoke their licence), and before that via the ProPlus option for 365 that is free via your OVS-EES reseller

 

Note, Office 365 is a local install, not just web version so it's the same as Office 2019

But does it work as a normal install of Office ie exactly the same layout or is it the web layout.

It's the same Win32 programs, it's just the sales model that's different (and continuous updates).

Its exactly the same @hardtailstar other than the fact it says Office 365 and not Office 2016/2019 etc.

 

It's the Click to Run installer from your office365 website, but your users can also just enter their school credentials if Office was pre-bundled on a new device as well, as it just activates the applications that are enabled by your licence.

Our home use program gave us an Office license separate to the school. The laptop isn't a school owned device.

Check with your reseller but we are able to give special codes from onthehub.com that allow staff to get Office for a tenner. There is no link to the school, but I think in the terms and conditions staff are meant to remove it once they leave, which of course we make staff cross their heart and hope to die, and pinky swear to doing. We give the option of that or download from O365 for free and only be able to use it while they are employees. Most people take that option. The download is the full version of Office.

That's because MS are moving everything over to that model but if you have the A1 Plus or ProPlus licences in Office 365, your users can install it at home regardless if it's a personal device or not, just as long as they have a valid school e-mail account with the assigned licence.

We dont, We use Office and moving over to GDrive.

So are you not going to be running Office in school at all?

If you are, and you have an OVS-EES agreement, then you can still use Office 365 (without e-mail) just to allow your users to download Office for use at home.

 

If you are going purely to G-Suite, then using Google Doc is an alternative

To be clear the Office install will not be on a School laptop.

 

It'll be on my dads laptop which is why it needs to be separate from the school Office license.

Ah, I thought you were enquiring for your users benefit at home not your parents.

 

Alas you might be limited then to paying a normal price for that copy then.

While I in no way suggest you cheese the system, any reason you don't install one of your 5 licenses (from 365 at school which will be free until you leave the school) on it for when you do remote work? (Unless it's for business use in which then HUP wouldn't count either)

I might be doing something wrong, but since the most recent changes to home use products, Office has been complaining about licensing unless the academic license holder is signed into O365. E.G. personal laptop I use is fine when I'm signed in and status shows as activated, but when another family member signs in with their account, they see a "there seems to be a problem with your account. Click here to fix" message. If I then sign in, it stops complaining, but they can then see my files, so it's not a workable solution.

 

Looks to me as though the only option if you want multiple users is to buy O365 family with the HUP discount (30% I think).

 

There are plenty of options for buying Office 2019 Pro Plus on the internet, but given that MS are selling it for £419.99, the other choices look "to good to be true".

 

 

Edit: I'd assumed that if it was installed using a valid account, it would activate for all users (in my experience that's what used to happen). However that no longer works for me.
