Wireless Network Coverage Map

I cannot remember the name of the software, but i've used the trial once before and maybe somebody knows what its called.

 

You import a map of your school, then you walk around the school or site clicking where you are on the map, and it takes a wireless survey, you do this all over and it gives you this coverage map.

 

Any ideas what it was ?

I was looking for something like this a while ago. We now have it built into our Aruba controller.

All i did was re-create the map of our school in Visio, took bloody ages and did it from memory, then walked around writing numbers on the map and then shading them in when i got back to my desk, but im sure the software that you are on about is way better than what i did.

Yep, as it shows you the different strenghs of signals. Just like the mobile phone coverage maps. This is annoying, i've googled and googled, can i find it

Maybe your just after a map but this is how I done ours..

When I set up ours (now at 9 Cisco Aironets) I got a map of the school (an outdated one!) and ,after looking at Cisco aerial specs and typical coverage, work out good placements on the map. Then I bought the Cisco network card (pcmcia) with the site survey tools, these gave some realtime info on signal strength and quality (you can have strength but a shite connection).

I needed to move some WAPs around a bit, not much.

 

Looking back though you could do it without the site survey stuff, just get everything setup and try it out then move it around and do some tests using the normal strength indicatiors and a constant ping etc. You can find what you need to move. Lots of things effect the strength so I dont think a quick walk about is that accurate.
