The Education Safeguarding Service have combined and updated our Online Safety Policy and Acceptable Use of Technology Policy Templates for September 2019 and these and other relevant documents can be downloaded from KELSI e-Safety

The updated templates are suitable for use by all educational settings and aim to provide a framework to help leaders develop their online safety ethos and detail strategic approaches with regards to the safer use of technology and outline online behaviour expectations for the whole community.

 

Key updates include:

• Combination of the previously separate online safety and AUP templates for ease of use
  
• Updated references to current statutory and non-statutory national guidance including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ 2019 and local Kent references (settings outside of Kent will need to ensure their own local information is included)
  
• Additional content regarding education and engagement with learners
  
• Updated sections regarding social media and mobile technology
  
• New content to cover responding to online safety incidents where concerns are relating to parents/carers
  
• Updated staff and visitor/volunteer Acceptable Use of Technology Policy (AUP) templates
  

We encourage all educational settings to use the suggested policy statements, but leaders should ensure that their policies are individualised for their specific context; it will not be appropriate for settings to adopt the template in its entirety. Leaders, managers and Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) should adapt the content to include specific local information such as their own named points of contact, as well as specific procedures and expectations.

 

Blue font indicates that the setting should insert relevant information

 

Pink font highlights suggestions to assist DSLs, leaders and managers in amending sample statements and ensuring content is appropriate for their setting. This content is provided as guidance notes and should not be left in individual settings policies.

 

Kent educational settings can consult with Rebecca Avery, Education Safeguarding Adviser (Online Protection) to discuss their own local policies and procedures.

Just wondering whether there is any updated advice for using virtual classroom technology (Zoom/Teams/Meet) etc? Do we need to put in specific advice for using this technology? I'm looking at our policy for next academic year, and I have a feeling there is a going to be a marked increase in using virtual classrooms come September.

Thanks @elsiegee40 but unless I'm being blind, I can't see the Online Safety policy template, unless they've merged it with the AUP?
