All user screen resolution

We have a desktop machine which is used by various users, and I need to set the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 across the board for all users.

 

We have the ability to change resolution disabled by Group Policy, and can change it per user by getting them to log off, move them into an admin group, get them to log on again, change the res, log off, move them out the admin group, and then log on again (phew!) However, to do this for a whole year group is daft!

 

Subsequently, the question is, can I change the screen res to affect ALL users who subsequently log onto that machine?

 

The machine seems to default to 1024 x 768, when it should be 1280 x 1024

Resolution settings in Windows (by default) are controlled at machine level, not user level. Are you saying when different users logon the resolution keeps changing?

If I, as an admin, log in, and change the res to 1280 x 1024 then it stays that way every time I subsequently log in, but only for me.

 

As soon as someone else logs in (who doesn't have the rights to change the res) then the display sets itself to 1024 x 768

 

I want it set to 1280 x 1024 for all users.

couldnt you use QRes or a utility similliar to that and a startup or logon script so that it sets the resolution at startup / login ?

If i remember correctly windows does store Resolution Settings in the User Profile, but dont quote me on that one

As an experiment, create a test pupil user and allocate them a new profile. Does the same problem happen? Is it just this machine or a whole room of them?
