DVI HDMI Displayport and VGA - time for a new headache

Hopefully this one is in the correct forum..

 

I have 4 new PCs, each with HDMI and a Displayport output. There are 4 screens each with a DVI port, I've tried HDMI-DVI and DisplayPort-DVI cables, both working absolutley fine, no issues.

 

These PCs are going into 4 classrooms, each with a projector connected via VGA. Adding HDMI cables from wall to projector is not an option at the moment, even though the projetors can take HDMI

 

The question is -what is the most reliable way anyone has found to convert either Displayport to VGA or HDMI to VGA?

We have some low cost Displayport to VGA converters but these are not working very well.

 

The PCs have low profile slots available, so I could add VGA cards.

I used Display Port to VGA adapters 6 years ago and they worked fine. No issues at all.

What the problem you having withe current adaptors? Could it be that you need an active adaptor, and perhaps you have a passive one or vice versa?

 

Bought some of these recently and they've worked fine for multiple outputs on a single machine in classrooms (2 monitors and projector).

Thanks Max - I think my comment about 'low cost' was probably the issue. They certainly aren't Startech. I'll give one of these a go.

My plan is to use something like these to talk to projector and use HDMI-DVI cable to talk to the monitor.

Where we didn't have any of our original Dell 'HDMI to VGA' converters left, we use Lindy ones - work a treat

The biggest issue with using DP or HDMI to VGA is resolution - users start setting the resolution to suit the local monitor (1080p) and the XGA projector can't cope. Solved many issues just by reverting the res to 1366x768!

Richard from CrusaderAV came to the rescue - awesome service.

They dropped some samples in (the school is actually fairly close to them) - which worked a treat.

 

All up and running today, I'll be canny of Sam's comment (above) regarding resolutions
