talksr Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Hi there, Has anyone had any issues with Nuiteq SnowFlake MultiTeach software? I have deployed version 7.0 via Group Policy using their MSI. It deploys no problem, however, when I am trying to open it on client computers, I am getting the message: Error Application was not run with administrator privileges, this application requires administrator privileges. Does anyone have a work around for this? I am assuming it is UAC related. It is happening on all of my stations, they are all Windows 10. Thanks in advance.
Duke5A Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 I have no experience with said software, but do the users attempting to run it have local admin access to the computer? If it actually requires local admin rights, but isn't smart enough to invoke a UAC prompt, you can specify that the application be ran with admin rights under the compatibility tab in the shortcut's properties.

I've just been asked to install this software and it's bringing up a UAC prompt for me. I'm not about to give teachers local admin rights on their machines so I'm wondering if you've managed to work around it? Thanks 1
Accura2k7 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 There are network deployment instructions for this.... In a nutshell, you have to run it the first time as an administrator... Any subsequent runs work fine as a standard user. They do have a script to automate it, but i didnt bother for the 20 machines running it here! 2
talksr Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Hi there, Sorry for the delay in replying, my thread update went to spam. To be honest, it has all been a real headache. We are currently having issues deploying Lynx over Group Policy. It deploys no problem at all, but when staff open it, it is asking for licencing info. We followed the install guide exactly and it just doesn't work. I have tried it at a couple of other sites, exactly the same problem. So frustrating as it seems ok software, but simply doesn't work as per the install instructions. I am able to deploy lots of other software via the server Group Policy, Clicker 6 as an example, which also has licencing info, and it deploys perfectly. So we know this isn't an issue with our Group Policy. Snowflake has been an ongoing frustration. I believe it has finally been resolved, but a colleague of mine has been dealing with this as I was losing the will to live in dealing with this every week. We were finding that it just wasn't working despite going over and over the guides they provided, we were just going round and round in circles and ended up giving the school a considerable amount of free support time to try and help them resolve this issue. We had several very frustrated staff saying "We have paid a fortune for this technology, why isn't it working?" and we were just sat in the middle trying our best to make things work that just didn't work! If it helps you, I can ask my colleague what the outcome was for Snowflake? Also, just so you are aware, for some reason, SnowFlake related issues have to be dealt with by Nuiteq, not Clever Touch. If you log a call with Clever Touch, they will ask you to get in touch with Nuiteq as I am assuming a different company licences it to them.
mavhc Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 "We have paid a fortune for this technology, why isn't it working?" Because you paid before you had it working, don't do that. We had clever touch IWBs once, the software was terrible then, and 15 years later apparently is still terrible 1

We didn't make the order, we are just there trying to help make sure everything works and the staff are able to do their job effectively!
Accura2k7 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) I am sorry to read your frustration.... BUT.... you have not followed the instructions for network deployment exactly... The network deployment instructions state that you need the GPO ADM files to deploy the licensing details via GPO for Lynx, this will stop the end users getting prompted. Snowflake also deploys fine, and as per the instructions, you run the software once per machine as an administrator and it works fine as a standard user. I deployed Snowflake and Lynx 2 1/2 years ago with no problems because I followed the instructions that they provided. For your ease, i have provided the links here: https://support.clevertouch.com/products/cleversoftware/cleverlynx https://support.clevertouch.com/downloads/cleversoftware/snowflake If you read these documents on the above pages it will work... The software does work when you follow the instructions which to be honest is not complicated or hard to read. On a side note, Snowflake is very graphic heavy and will run slow on low end machines. mavhc Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Why would you have to run once as admin?, that's just bad programming 1
Accura2k7 Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Why would you have to run once as admin?, that's just bad programming thats also irrelevant, even though I agree and have told their developers the same, but alas it is what it is!
Norphy Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) Why would you have to run once as admin?, that's just bad programming Because the first time the program is run, it needs activating and the activation routine writes a couple of files in the c:\programdata folder, for which it needs admin access. Just what that couldn’t be part of the installation routine, I don’t know but that’s why it needs to be run as an admin. Please note, I’m not saying that this is a good thing or that I agree with what they’re doing or how they’re doing it, I’m just trying to explain why it’s like what it’s like. Odd, ProgramData has CREATOR OWNER full permissions so anyone can write to it.
talksr Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 I am sorry to say, but in my opinion the software is just junk. It does not do as explained in instructions, we have spent over six months now trying to get their software to work. It is a shambles. At the end of the day, the real people losing out here are the children as staff are unable to use the software as it simply doesn't work correctly. A prime example... We have given up trying to deploy Clever Touch software via our server as it just doesn't work. Yes, we followed the guide, yes we have logged calls, it just doesn't work. I have the latest version of SnowFlake 7.20 as provided to me by Nuiteq in December 2019. Every single time I attempt to install it on a brand spanking new laptop, it installs Bonjour and then I get this... Doesn't matter what I do, have rebooted FIVE times now, closed all apps, checked Windows 10 isn't updating in the background, even tried it on a pre-existing computer which is not new and doesn't have Snowflake already installed. It simply doesn't work. I have come in today to get some new laptops set up and installed. I have just a few hours left as the site is not open all day and a stack of laptops I have not even been able to get out of the box yet as I am faffing around, spending far too much time on this broken software. Every other piece of software I have installed, perfect, no problems. Every single time we encounter issues, Snowflake or Lynx. End result is that these teachers will not get the software as I just don't have the time to keep messing around with this and more importantly, the school does not have the funds to keep paying for us to go round and round in circles on this software. I think that is quite sad as in this day and age where money is tight and we have to justify every penny we spend, I really think we are being let down here. The hardware is good, but the software, in my view is utter tosh. 1
mavhc Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 What does the software do that other alternative software can't do?
Norphy Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 What does the software do that other alternative software can't do? Not very much (Frankly, from what I’ve seen of Lynx, it’s awful) but the point is that it comes with the boards so you’re licensed to use it. Without either having to use open source software of doubtful provenance or paying out for ActivInspire or Smart Notebook, you’re stuck with it
mavhc Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Open source software is the only software that's not of doubtful provenance. Also MS have a whiteboard app
jimmy_2k Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 I have had the "another software install is in progress" message on Windows 10 1803. I closed the Win32 installer on the task manager and installs worked fine after that
talksr Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 The problem I have is that as far as the head is concerned, the school has paid for the boards and the accompanying software, and the school wants it all to be working. They want to use all of the software Clever Touch proudly exhibited in the sales pitches. It has put us in a very difficult and extremely frustrating position as the software just isn't working as it should be, not our fault, not the school's, but the school's stance is, we paid, we want it working.
mavhc Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 It's not working, return it at faulty, get the money back. Not fit for purpose
