Veeam Backup best approach

After using windows backup and tape backups I have finally been given the option to purchase veeam backup. I am just wondering how you would set it up for backup retention etc? I have roughly a 15tb SAN to back up onto so just looking for any best practices.

My advice is to buy a physical server dedicated to veeam and chock it with 4 to 8tb hard drives in Raid 6. Then buy a separate NAS drive with some 4TB drives in in a separate building for disaster recovery.

 

You then have a very good value, super fast, very reliable backup service that can easily and cheaply be replaced/upgraded in the future.

 

I actually bought the server etc refurbished, not new so the value for money is off the chart.
