Unallocated disk 2016 Dell Raid 10

Any ideas on this?

I have a Dell 330 with 5*2TB disks. I've set 4 to Raid 10 with one hot spare.

The Raid in the server bootup shows approx 4TB available, which is what I'd expect.

In Disk Management I onlyhave approx 2TB to use,

 

It shows 1677GB (ie 1.7TB) unallocated and when I select that area the only drop down option I have is 'properties', I can't extend in to it or anything.

 

Do I have some kind of 2TB volume limit for the raid which I've missed?

 

I'm early enough in the install to kill it and start again..

Yup, OS partition is limited to 2TB I believe.

If you watch his instructions make a few notes - partitions live inside volumes which live inside disks. Delete from the bottom up - delete partitions then delete the volumes then you're good to convert.

 

The mistake I made was seeing the unallocated space and thinking "oh, that the 5th disk, the hot standby". I think Windows doesn't know anything about that disk, it's a hardware thing. Schoolboy error.

Drat! Didn't work - when I've got back to the 'clean' install on Disk Manager I can see Disk C with 2TB and 1.7TB unallocated alongside it. When I try to extend it the message is

"Only the first 2TB are usable on large MBR disks. cannot create partitions beyond the 2TB mark, nor convert the disk to dynamic"

What RAID controller do you have in the 330? Some older controllers will only allow partitions up to 2TB and if you have one of those you'd need to replace the controller to be able to have a partition larger than 2TB.
