Recommendations for cloud based video editing and/or Desktop Publishing software?

We are currently looking for the above as we are moving to Chromebooks from September. This is for a secondary school so the DTP software ideally needs to have the equivalent functionality of MS Publisher. The video editor should have the same functionality as a very old version of Adobe Premiere as that is what it is replacing.

 

I know the second one is a big ask. Anyone using Chromebooks for Media Studies already? If so, what software do you use?

Canva could be used as a replacement for MS Publisher. I've used it lots and can highly recommend it.

For video: WeVideo. Works very well, and has proper integration with GSuite - if you have classes set up in Google Classroom you should be able to use those to manage classrooms, no extra management needed. Pricing is affordable for schools, too.

 

For more basic video editing and DTP, Adobe Spark is actually quite impressive - again, integrates with GSuite, although ina clunkier fashion that WeVideo, and is free, although you do have to register and set up an Adobe account.

WeVideo and LucidPress (https://www.lucidpress.com)

 

I've only had a play with the free version of LucidPress so can't say how much it is for the premium. We do most of our 'Publisher' type stuff in Docs or Slides. We also have a suite of PCs so can still use Publisher. When we eventually go Windows-free, we'll look at LucidPress more seriously.
