Anyone got one of these colour lasers? Looking to replace our old Epson C2000's with them. Seen them for £600 with full set of toners.

 

Shame I have to ditch the epsons really as I was trained to service them - and have all the epson service manuals. But they are on their last legs and I could never get them working with *any* print management software.

You need to work out how much the thing will cost to print...

 

Black toner = £87/6000 pages

Colour toner = £111/6000 pages per toner

 

That's at 5% coverage.

 

Assuming that 20% of the page is covered in ink and you use equal amounts of each toner, that's 7p/page. That's before you factor in maintenance costs when the fuser unit needs changing.

We have some of the predecessors, the 3500Ns and the 3550Ns. They've been perfectly reliable and they've taken everything that the kids have thrown at them. The fusers and image transfer kits have worn out in one so far which has done more than 60000 pages. They cost about £45 each so that adds £0.0015 to the cost of each page.

 

What can I say, they've done us proud. It means there is only one printer in each computer room so the kids can't send a job to one printer, get impatient and send it to another. They're slightly cheaper to run than the inkjets they replaced and significantly faster. The only thing that annoys me about them is that I can't find a way to lock the front panel on them so you always see kids playing with the panels and printing out loads of test pages or configuration pages.

You can't lock the panels through Web Jetadmin?

If you can I can't see how. The thing about the 3500/3550N is that it is a standalone printer with a bundled 3700en jetdirect print server, not a printer with an integrated print server. I'm guessing that would account for it.
