Dell Equalogic & Java Support

Hi All,

 

I'm trying to manage our Dell SAN but the Dell EqualLogic software it runs requires Java which due to the licencing issues I'm not able to use. I've tried Amazon Corretto but it doesn't support web start apps. I've also tried OpenJDK which comes with IcedTea-Web which does but when I load the Dell software it just shows up blank. Looking online this also doesn't seem to work.

 

Has anyone found a solution to this?

If you are okay with the potential security issues, it is possible to use JRE 8 Update 201/202 without having to pay Oracle since these were released prior to the end of January.

Java is a very secure environment if patched properly. If you do not need further versions, you can continue to use version 202, but your Java environment will become insecure quickly and may contravene security and government compliancy regulations. If anyone downloads anything released after January 2019 you are at risk of non-compliance with Oracle on licensing.

Have you contacted dell and asked them to supply a licences copy of java in order for their management software to function?

I've not although its no longer under direct warranty so I don't think they'd be interested. I'll go down the old Java route until an Open Source version can run it.
