Off-site back up

Looking for some advise what other do for off-site back up.

 

We currently have veeam backup and replication backing up the hyper v machine to some hard drives on the internal server of veeam and Nas drive.

 

I am thinking of putting a server off-site and using a VPN to connect it into the network then add it's storage into veeam.

 

Any thoughts on this

Have you thought bout using Azure storage for your off-site backup with Altaro software?

As you won't be running it as a server and using solely for storage. This could be a cheap option. Especially if your retention is quite low

Definitely a good idea to get an off-site backup. You say you're thinking of putting a server off-site; Where? Whose responsibility (licensing, updating, power)? What security? Another school is a good option - your house isn't!

We have a house onsite witch the headmaster lives, he is on one of our 80mb fttc lines with a draytek. They have a larder Cubard witch a small server or pc with loads of storage could go in. Witch would mean if we needed to access it I pop over and collect the pc

Is your existing NAS used for anything apart from backup? Could you just stick that in the head teacher's house, at least as an interim?

Setup a virtual machine in Azure and install Veeam onto that - then setup some storage connected to that VM for your Veeam Backups to copy to.
