Afternoon all,

Seems like a silly question but does joining a Windows machine to a domain automatically disable its ability to update directly from Microsoft.

Currently trying to diagnose why machines won't pickup updates at a primary i am working at. Currently clicking on update just has the computer scanning for updates for ages before failing.

Cheers in advance for any tips

No, if you don't specify a WSUS server in Group Policy it should continue to try and check Microsoft servers. If you have multiple proxies for your Internet connection, It could be that Microsoft Update is blocked for certain proxies, such as staff, pupils, byod.

If its Windows 10 and behind a proxy (swgfl etc....) I had to import the proxy in to netsh..

(Netsh winhttp import proxy ie) < this will bring in the proxy settings in to operating system level
