HP 1920 to compliment HP 5406

Morning everyone!

 

Over the weekend I was donated a HP 1920 switch by a colleague whose dad moved into a new business premise, whereby they discovered quite a lot of other redundant equipment was left behind by the previous establishment that occupied said premises. The premises had been empty for almost 5 years.

 

This pretty much came at a perfect time because I was looking to buy an additional 24-port module for the HP 5604zl in the summer.

 

Anyhoo, what would be the best way of connecting the HP 1920 switch directly to the HP 5604zl - trunk the ports as uplink?

 

It seems like the 1920 doesn't support command line and looking at it closely it's a L2 switch.

The 1920 does support command line but you have to unlock a lot of the commands as they are hidden.

We use them quite heavily along with 5406s at the core with no problems. Connected via dual gigabit trunks without issue.

I'm pretty sure the 1920 does support command line but you need to use a password which you should be able to find on web which I could not change on my 1910 which is a royal PITA . And if it is anything like the 1910 it is comware not procurve at the cli :-( .

 

Set up a Bridge Aggregation on the 1920 and connect to the 5604zl via a trunk split between 2 different modules is how I'd do it.

The switch, by the way, also came with 2 x 1Gbit fibre modules

I tried that and then it asks for a password.

 

Currently there is no password and it says invalid password. I then set a password for the admin account and it still says invalid password.

 

Is there some other hidden password to the admin account that I am not aware of..?

Completely up to you. If you do not need Fibre, Copper will be the cheapest option.
