peterfarrell Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Hi everyone, This might sound a bit odd but I'm looking at upgrading to Windows 2016 server at a school I work in and was wandering if it would I be fine setup two HP Proliant DL380e storage servers as two cluster hosts? Or can they only be setup as storage servers, i.e. would I need two additional server boxes as the hyper-v hosts also?
Jcx500 Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 (edited) I Think you can, i think they just come pre configured with more bays, but if they have a dl380s normal specs they should be fine, (Storage Spaces would work fine with this) Edited May 14, 2019 by Jcx500 1
peterfarrell Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 Hi Jcx500, Thanks for the reply, I suppose it's just the "server" and "storage server" description that's giving second thoughts. It would be nice to hear from someone who has actually done this before I proceed.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Whilst I've not set this up myself, I can confirm that it should be possible. The 'e' in 380e just means economy or entry. They're still fully capable servers, just unable to use some CPU and memory configurations when compared to their 380p cousins.
