  2. Hi Jcx500, Thanks for the reply, I suppose it's just the "server" and "storage server" description that's giving second thoughts. It would be nice to hear from someone who has actually done this before I proceed.
  3. Hi everyone, This might sound a bit odd but I'm looking at upgrading to Windows 2016 server at a school I work in and was wandering if it would I be fine setup two HP Proliant DL380e storage servers as two cluster hosts? Or can they only be setup as storage servers, i.e. would I need two additional server boxes as the hyper-v hosts also?
  4. Hi Michael, Just to let you know the migration went as smoothly as I could have hoped, a massive thank you for all your help and advice.
  5. Hi Michael, thanks for clearing that up for me.
  6. Hi again Michael, Sorry for being a nuisance, just making sure, are all the components of those listed below free or are some pay for? Office 365 Education for faculty Sway Mobile Device Management for Office 365 These licenses do not need to be individually assigned Yammer for Academic Office Online for Education Skype for Business Online (Plan 2) SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU Exchange Online (Plan 1) Office 365 Education for students Sway Mobile Device Management for Office 365 These licenses do not need to be individually assigned Yammer for Academic Office Online for Education Skype for Business Online (Plan 2) SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU Exchange Online (Plan 1) Thanks.
  7. Hi Michael, Thanks for that, couldn't get it signed for until this morning the head's been on a course. Sent off and had confirmation of receipt so i'll wait until it's been passed on to around 5 different people before it's actually dealt with.
  8. Hi Michael Got the domain verified and would like to migrate during the holiday, does this RFC look correct? Worlds End Junior school would like to start using using Microsoft Office 365 from the 31st of March 2016, below is the required information for changing the MX records. 9. Hi Michael, Got that signed and sent off, once that's done I'm going to arrange to transfer during Easter hols as I can get everyone's email accounts backed up to Outlook on their workstations it's only about 50 staff so shouldn't be take too long to do. Cheers Michael, can't thank you enough for your help!
  10. Hi Michael, Sorry for the slow replies but I'm really busy at the moment. do the records below look correct? See step-by-step instructions for performing this step with: Create a verification record at your DNS hosting provider Not familiar with DNS? Instead of creating the verification record yourself, you can contact the company that hosts your DNS records and ask them to create the record for you. Here's a sample message you can use when you contact them. After you receive confirmation that the record has been created, come back to Office 365 and click done, verify now below. Greetings, I'm using Microsoft Office 365 and would like to use my domain with it, but first Office 365 must verify that I own the domain name. To do this, I need to create a TXT or an MX record for my domain. Because you are my DNS hosting provider, could you please create the record for me? The record needs to include the information shown in the table below. Note: You only have to create one of the records and you can choose which one to create. Record type (choose one) Alias or hostname Destination or points to address TTL TXT @ or worldsend.bham.sch.uk MS=ms51966068 1 hour MX @ or worldsend.bham.sch.uk ms51966068.msv1.invalid.outlook.com 1 hour
  11. Hi Michael, Thanks again for your help, The current email schoolname.bham.sch.uk (it's been since before I started) which was set up by Edit/link2ICT/BGFL? nobody has any details of purchase/ownership of the domain at the school. Presumably quite a few schools have been in this position so how do register as the owner? (sorry if I'm sounding like a plank).
  12. Hi again Michael, I had to shelve this due other things but need to get my skates on now but I'm a bit puzzled by exactly what information I need to send in my RFC form for a migration to external email. I did an Mx lookup of the current school domain name worldsend.bham.sch.uk using the MX toolbox site and got lots of information, but what what do I need to put on the form? Thanks.
  13. Hi fairm010 When you ran this on Windows 7 did it create the user folders on the server users share too? Thanks
  14. Hi Michael, You've been very generous with your time and knowledge it is much appreciated. My next move will be to contact Link2ICT/Service Birmingham with a change request and see what hurdles they require me to overcome. Thank you very much.
  15. Hi Michael, Thanks again I've already set up an account and I'm in the trial stage at the moment so I haven't verified the domain as yet. The school email is @worldsend.bham.sch.uk as originally set up by the BGFL, do the school or BGFL own this domain? We recently purchased the domain name worldsendjuniors.co.uk so do we have to change to that?
  16. Hi again Michael, Thanks for the quick reply. Any further advice/guidance I'd really appreciate, I want to get the ball rolling on this ASAP.

  18. Hi foofighterjim, An idiot's guide would great. The school I work in are looking to migrate from Zimbra (Link2ICT on a BGFL line) to Office 365 I'd like to hear any advice you could give me on doing this as it's something I've not done before.
  19. Hi Michael, The school I work in are looking to migrate from Zimbra (Link2ICT on a BGFL line) to Office 365 I'd like to hear any advice you could give me on doing this as it's something I've not done before. We subscribe to MS volume licensing through Link2ICT but they are charging a £1000 a year for this (Office 365) but I'm sure we can get this free from Microsoft, am I correct? Thanks.
  20. Thanks to everyone for your help, hope to implement soon. Had a shed load of Ipads and a Mac Mini server to set up (total newbie to Macs). Cheers.
  21. Thanks again for this very useful advice, I'm at that particular school on Monday so I'll discuss it with the head. Another option I was thinking about was to buy a domain name (£5.00 for a year) and run both emails alongside each other so we could have a gradual migration. What do you think?
  22. Hi foofighterjim, Thank you for the fast reply. Did you change from Link2ICT? If yes were they OK about it or did they make your life awkward? Any advance info about migrating would be very much appreciated, cheers.
  23. Hi there, I'd appreciate some help from someone who may of done this already. I know I need to add an mx record but what ports do I need put in my request for change through Link2ICT so I can install and enable full functionality to Office 365. Thanks in advance.
  24. Yeah, great fix pobably saved me spending half the day going through the Microsoft "help". Cheers mate!!
