1TF0rward Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 So, whilst being an IT apprentice in a primary school I had so many calls during the report writing period about help needed when the report template in word has messed up. Even though there are restrictions they still find away to do something wrong! I had an idea. An online report writer. After some research I found some companies which off a report writer but I personally didn't like the look of them and they were way too expensive! Me having knowledge in website development (made the school website with my side business) and the IT Technician there know a lot of PHP and JavaScript. Together we came up with a plan on how we wanted this to work. Approximately 1 year later we have a working version of this system which has already been used by staff which prefer this way to write reports. As it is online, they are able to access this from home and write their reports after they have logged in. This stop them taking having student names etc on USB sticks, GDPR and all that. The most simple way we found to do this is by using WordPress as the default login and user system then build it on that. So I am asking for advice, feature requests and just general feedback. Here are the features we have so far: • Access and edit pupils reports. • Choose classes to show per user. • Members Directory. (View Teachers Profiles). • Have more than one class assigned to SLT. • Colour indicators on reports. e.g. green complete (looking into changing colours for complete awaiting SLT comments then fully complete) • SLT Comments (End of Year) • Mark as complete • Pupil photo (so the teacher knows who they are writing about) • Ability to pull the reports from the database using mail merge. (Still want to be printed off on nice paper for parents) • Prompts before you go onto another pupil if you haven't saved it. I think I mentioned everything. This is something that is constantly changing too for improvement. I am currently trying to make it as a plugin too. 1
mikeprice Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 Sounds good - does it use pre defined statements for each subject This can speed things up a lot - also I have seen some cases where SMT prefer this so that they can pre-agree the way things are phrased and presented to the parents

Yes this is something we would like to include.
QwertyMash Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 I actually wrote a program to write all my reports called b*llshit-it haha Very much a similar thing to this. It would write a pretty unique report for the student per class based off a few answers about their grades, attendance and attitude. Not once did I get pulled up on my reports haha. I will post a gif tonight when I get home. Your work looks good! 1
