robjduk Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Not something which would often come IT's way I know but has anyone ever had experience setting up a heating system and can recommend any company? We have an Allen Martin system which we are having endless problems with it freezing up. Its a longstanding issue being batted between us and them for ages and mentioned to our buildings manager about maybe finding another company to provide a control system however she has been told it would run into the tens of thousands! Can anyone back this up? Seems a hefty price for a small box which connects to already present sensors and displays a web based UI. Long shot I know but here's hoping. Thanks
FishCustard Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I imagine the sensors emit data over some proprietary protocol, which means integrating them with a new controller may be difficult. I don't know of any companies, but the first bet might be to call a few at random, describe the problem(s) and see what sort of response you get.

A quick Google reveals this: Allen-Martin Conservation Ltd. » Eco System which states: All Eco products are backwards compatible and will seamlessly integrate with our legacy range of controllers. This ensures there is always an upgrade path for our clients without having to replace an entire Building Energy Management System (BEMS). (my emphasis).
robjduk Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 Yeah its from a long time ago (Its at least 10 years and more likely 20+) and this system struggles to run even in IE11 with endless proprietary software requirements which cause loops. The support company we use have an @AOL.com address and the engineer is semi-retired. Its a frustrating scenario for me where I keep getting it in the neck because this company from the distant past keep blaming "the network" for the hangups and trying to explain to anyone non IT how antiquated they are is met with "have you fixed the network yet". I asked if their engineer could change the controller to DHCP so I can move it's vlan and got told the processor can't run DHCP. Just wondered if someone knew anything about it but yeah, no doubt the sensors would need replacing and recabling. Thanks for replying and maybe it will just go away?
Andrew_C Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 We use Javelin Controls, Basingstoke based. That said, ours is a vast site with a bizarre mix of buildings and plant. They may be over the top. 1
