ClaireAmes Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Hello, I'm trying to do some house keeping during the break. I'm trying to remove some of the unwanted aspects (some never used) However there are hundreds of one with a prefix of "CAS" that seem to have been imported. How can I get rid of them. I doesn't seem to allow me to remove them. Thanks!
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Just be aware that if you delete an aspect your delete every result that has ever been stored in that aspect. To delete them you can use the Tools - Performance - Assessment - System Utilities - Aspects route. Just be very careful (maybe do a full backup for any deletion?).

When I go to delete them it shows no results attached to them but then tells me I hasn't deleted them. I don't know why.
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 They are the Programme of Study aspects, I am not sure how they behave as they are not attached to traditional templates, you might need to check with your SIMS support team. 1

Oh ok, because there's hundreds of them I have to scroll past to populate the Individual reports, so I'd just like them to be removed from that list to make it clearer to see. I'll phone them then and wait several weeks for a response. Thanks for your help!
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 How comes you have to wait so long? Before working in a school I worked for a SIMS support team and we wouldn't have been happy if our customers thought each call would take weeks!

Before working in a school I worked for a SIMS support team and we wouldn't have been happy if our customers thought each call would take weeks! No idea. I called on the 28th March at 9:13 with an urgent issue, as our Individual reports (emailed to parents) were pulling through the previous data sets, even though the template showed the current one and everything was right. On the phone I was told "sometimes the templates get confused" and that it would be passed on up as a major issue. I received an email yesterday at 3pm asking for more details... In the time I've recreated the templates from scratch and re-sent everything. I started in August and found out in December (after a sales visit!) we supposedly have a Customer Support Manager in our package. I've emailed him about three times since then, and got one response back, four weeks later. I don't email him now. :-(
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 If you are an academy you should shop around, you don't need to put up with bad support. I would imagine your individual report issue would have been that the tags were changed using find and replace but the hidden tag information would be pointing to the wrong resultset, you can use the backwards filled in P icon in word (don't know the official name) to see the full tag.

We are considering it. We're looking at moving away as much as we can, so at the moment looking at alternatives for our Apps. Yes, I was told (after the fact) that is how they had been made, with good intentions. (Inherited!) Is there a way in the future to update the result set in the reports, if cloning? Backwards filled?? What is that, that would be helpful to check?
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 The icon in your Paragraph panel in word, it shows/hides spacing, it also shows the full content of your tags. You can find and replace when the whole tag is showing but you have to make sure you get the formatting correct and you need the resultset ID as well. 1
ClaireAmes Posted April 10, 2019 Author Posted April 10, 2019 Ahhh the backwards P!! I know what you mean. That shows page breaks and things. (Does anyone know it's actual name?!) Oh ok, I'll maybe try that. I was so paranoid I just remade everything from scratch, so I knew I'd made the links properly. One issue with inheriting a system and other processes.
bfelton Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Luckily for me I joined the school not long after moving to SIMS so I have been building everything from scratch. Good luck with your search for better SIMS support!
Pink_Panda Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) Claire this is the thread on how to bulk update result sets in individual report templates. It's a bit fiddly at first, but once you get the hang of it, so much quicker! http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/68755-how-bulk-update-result-set-individual-reports-am7.html and the ¶ sign is a pilcrow Edited April 10, 2019 by Pink_Panda
Cache Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 CAS aspects can also form part of the KS4 analysis reporting pack and things like this will likely get reimported when you run the next update as they form part of the assessment manager and/or reporting imports.

If you just want to get around the "finding the correct aspects" issue, then I'd strongly recommend categorising the aspects you use for easy retrieval, especially in reports and template building, they have saved me hours of scrolling.
