My Photos app is broken sporadically across many workstations, until a fix is found I need to install something free/deployable/modern looking, that can do simple opening/editing/printing of jpegs. I've looked at irfanview but it loooks very dated. any other suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks, that looks good, how can I import a reg file of many keys into a GPO?

Group Policy Preferences could be an option as well although I have not tried it.

Try importing this GPO for speed - it'll re-register the relevant reg entries and set the default app association for the main image types (you'll need to put the XML file in the root of the zip on a share somewhere and change the GPO for default app associations to point to it)

Restore Windows Photo Viewer.zip

Use the same reg settings as in the attached zip. Imported in to a test computer and using the Registry Wizard in GPMC imported in to a GPO.

Don't forget to change the file associations.

How did you set the file association. When I set the XML file to run in a test OU I find a picture in the pupils photo's folder and on first click it says what program would you like to open this with instead of just opening with Windows Photo Viewer. Edited by cheekycharly

I have used 2 places in GPO:

1. Import the reg file as post above which enables Photoviewer (does Photoviewer work at all for you?)

2. Set photo viewer as default with the usual default file associations xml?:

...there's a load of other stuff here to to set Chrome as default browser etc..

I used the download provided by FN-GM which I then converted to an XML via the web. I looked at the code from the download provided by gtg3 and saw that it also made changes to Chrome and Adobe so didnt use that one. Is this the one you used and just removed the chrome and adobe lines in the registry key?
