Can edu google account install extensions?

Spotted this on reddit

 

 

Pupil claims his school google account installed an extension on his home pc. We use office 365 not google but it still sounds unlikely.

 

It doesn't sound like any of the answerers are actually familiar with edu google.

If the user signs into Chrome with s school account and you are force installing extensions - then they will be there. However, they can also just remove the school user and sign in with a private account. So while the extension is installed the user can remove it if they remove the school account.

On the post the student claims he needs to use Google Services for his homework. This might be true but it doesn't mean he has to sign into Chrome.

Yeah although Google changed Chrome a few versions ago to automatically sign the browser in when you sign into any Google service unless you specifically turn it off in your browser setting. Quite a few people were unaware of the change.

True - however it won't sync data and install apps automatically.

It's within the power of the G Suite domain admin to force install extensions when users sign into Chrome browser. Signing into Chrome is optional, although the UX design very effectively ushers the user into doing so.
