Office 365- encryption mail rule

Our local LA was using egress for encrypted emails which has now stopped. They have advised everyone to be using office 365 mail rules enforcing encryption.

 

We have done this but all messages we send and receive with attachments end up corrupting the attachments.

 

We have instead turned on rights management in azure and getting people to click on the encrypt button within outlook which is working flawlessly. However the la still insist on using the mail rule.

Has anyone else seen this and solved it?

You mean adding a rule to turn on the OMEv2 encryption? Yep we have that enabled as an alternative to pressing a button based on a subject content

Yep. Depending on the address sent to, it will either ask to login with a Microsoft account, google account or request a pin code to the recipient e-mail address.

The encrypted e-mail itself never leaves your tenancy.

It is a bit flawed tho, as it sends a suspicious looking email saying "Please login with your microsoft account to view" which isn't a million miles off what a phishing email would look like...

True - but if users are signed into Office365 it should never ask for their password as they are already logged in. This is the fail safe I've been explaining to users at our place; If you are asked to enter your credentials then be suspicious.

Dont you just love SBC!

 

We are in the same boat. Some schools have Office 365 for mail and some have Exchange 2010/2016. And the emails look so close to be phishing emails. We have to tell staff to hover over the read email link to see if that points to microsoft or to a fake address.

 

The answer SBC tell us for the school to email SBC to get them to send you an encrypted email for the school to reply with. ....

I’m just clueless as to why attachments are getting corrupted. We have set things up correctly and tested internally and all works fine. As soon as its external the whole file corrupts

Works well for us as a mail rule, staff just have to type ENCRYPT: into the subject line.
