TwistedHelixis Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 We have a number of 'SMART' interactive TV's by smarttech, (Smarttech make Smartnotebook software etc) One of the built in options is to cast. On the TV, it says it is connected to the network (Wifi) and will display as cast device TV 1. If I open Chrome on a laptop and then open cast, it does list TV 1, but then fails to connect. If I open cast on my Android phone it does not find any devices & the same from an iPhone. Does this actually work for anyone?
atcoates Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I've used it with Ipads in my schools without an issue. No restrictions on GPO's to stop this happening? Everything in the same IP range, VLAN etc.
TwistedHelixis Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 No restrictions on GPO's to stop this happening? Everything in the same IP range, VLAN etc All on same IP range, no GPO. Tried from my personal phone but still nothing. I have found a section on the smarttech website (linked below), under the screen share section it lists some ports for Google Cast. FYI - Screen share does work as we can draw on a tablet screen and it will appear on the smartboard. In order to get the cast working, do I actually need to allow external ports to our network seeing as we are just casting within the same room / network? https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/iq/en/configuring/configuring-the-network.cshtml
TwistedHelixis Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 Sorry I meant to say the whiteboard app works where you draw on the tablet and it appears on the screen, not screen share
jmak Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I don't have the newer smart IWBs, but I have made Google Cast for education work. This allows you to cast from Chrome (including whole desktop) on a Windows PC to a Windows PC that has the extension installed. I don't think it works from Android tablets unfortunately.
telspar Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 These work OK for us, but not yet to the point where I encourage non tech-friendly faculty to use it. We mostly use the screen sharing / miracast from within Windows rather than casting from Chrome, but I have done both. With every firmware update for the TVs and the wireless adapters on our computers they get a little bit better, but still not to where I would like it to be, especially for video. If you can, make sure everything is using 5ghz wireless direct. That works much better than 2.4ghz here.
mavhc Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Miracast or Chromecast? Connected by wifi or ethernet?
TwistedHelixis Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 Thanks for all the reply's I did manage to connect a tablet up using Chromecast, not tried Miracast yet.
telspar Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 FYI an update 3.2.2006 for the AM40 or 50 IQ units just came out with a few improvements on the screen sharing. You may want to make sure these have been applied (supposed to happen automatically) before doing any testing. It has a new potion to prioritize miracast under the screen sharing settings. https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/iq/en/whats-new/iq-3-2-2006-am40-am50.cshtml
mavhc Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 It's great how they finish a product and then they ship it.... Never trust a device with upgradable firmware or a reset button.
