Kindles/ e readers

Morning all,

 

I've just had a teacher come in wanting to buy a bank of kindles (preferred)/ereaders for use by students but that are security locked to the wall in one room.

 

Does anyone know of any mdm solutions that would enable us to manage and lock down kindles or a bank of ereaders.

 

I'm just interested in if and how others have safely introduced these into a school?

The only management platform that I'm aware of for Kindle ereaders is Whispercast. Unfortunately, AFAIK, it's not available outside of the US.

 

Some of the Kindle Fire tablets might be manageable via MDM but you'd need to use one which has a Kindle agent available for them, they're not manageable via standard Android weaponry.

Or perhaps more usefully, Android tablets in kiosk mode (cheaper and don't need any MDM beyond GSuite admin device controls).

 

AFAIK there's still no option for MDM or bulk purchasing books. If you're locking the Kindles to the wall you should be able to control what books are available in the archive - or if you don't enter WiFi credentials students wouldn't be able to download books other than the ones you store locally to the device. I think students would be able to connect them to their own hotspot and add their own payment details to buy additional books, or possibly change then to a different Amazon account, but if they're in a public area, I'm not convinced that's very likely. friends on how keen your students are on spending their own money just to be a pain...

Kindles or Kindle Fires?

 

Kindles themselves are managed by the account settings in the Amazon account aren't they?
