kennysarmy Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 We're being plagued by this error on school laptops. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. It's not happening at all on normal PC's. Has anyone seen anything similar?

ZeroHour Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Some seem to suggest it can be a Visual C++ redist issue. Can you check if any of these are installed and try a reinstall on a laptop: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads *If* thats the issue its possible an update failed to install properly for those packs but I cant recall when the last one came out.
Arthur Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) We're being plagued by this error on school laptops. According to this, Google Chrome requires the Visual C++ 2005 redistributable (although it seems to work fine with just the 2013 redists installed). Edited March 18, 2019 by Arthur
kennysarmy Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 According to this, Google Chrome requires the Visual C++ 2005 redistributable (although it seems to work fine with just the 2013 redists installed). installed both the x64 and x86 versions of the Visual C++ 2005 redistributable and error remains - - - Updated - - - I've also tried installing the 2010 and 2017 versions with on success
Arthur Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 I've also tried installing the 2010 and 2017 versions with on success Any luck with 2013?
kennysarmy Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 Any luck with 2013? Installed - still fails with the same error
Arthur Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Installed - still fails with the same error Strange. Does uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome again make any difference?
kennysarmy Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 Strange. Does uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome again make any difference? Chrome is pushed out as an MSI - when we've had this issue before, taking the PC off the domain and re-joining seems to fix it (that will force a Chrome uninstall/reinstall) - but I was trying to figure out a way to fix it without doing that I'd also like to get to the bottom of why it occurs just on our laptops!
