Can anyone recommend a way to move all data from our staff share from our onsite server to google team drive. The permissions of folders etc will be sorted once the data is in the private team drive, however we need all the data moved across ASAP so need some tools (free!!)

Google Drive File Stream would be the easiest software to use.

RClone would also work.

Edit. Just in case you weren't aware Team Drives also have limits...

https://support.google.com/a/answer/7338880?hl=en

Maximum items in a single Team Drive

A Team Drive can contain a maximum of 400,000 files and folders.

We recommend that Team Drives include less than this limit. Users of Team Drives with too many files can have difficulty organizing and navigating the content. For example, users might simply bookmark individual files or ignore the majority of the content.

Maximum uploads per day

After you've uploaded 750 GB to a Team Drive in 1 day, you'll be blocked from uploading additional files that day. However, file uploads already in progress will complete, up to a 5 TB maximum for a single file.

Folder hierarchy depth

A single Team Drive can nest up to 20 subfolders, but we don’t recommend creating Team Drives with a folder structure that complex. Team Drives functions, but users can have difficulty with organizing and navigating the content.

Instead of a complex hierarchy of folders, consider organizing content into multiple Team Drives.

That is Drive File Stream.

I honestly did not think it would that be that easy. When I have moved large quantities of folders between local file shares I always use Robbo copy.

I haven't tried it myself, but in theory you could use Robocopy to do the file transfer once you have installed and logged into File Stream since Google Drive (My Drive & Team Drives) will appear as a single physical drive on the computer.

If it works it would give you the ability to see which files did or didn't copy in the Robocopy log files.
