nathan3388 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 hi Was wondering if there is a piece of software similar to the apple caching server. where it doesn't use proxies but uses the public IP address to cache content. The reason I am asking is because I would love to be able to cache some of the youtube videos that the student play to take some load off our firewall decrypting the videos. If anyone has any software or know of any then could you please help. Thanks Nathan
AlanD Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 I'd be surprised, albeit pleasantly surprised, if Apple's caching server worked with YouTube. Yes for apple updates, and regular web stuff. And most caching servers don't cache large files which tends to exclude videos from the outset.
nathan3388 Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 i was after something that does the same as the apple server where it uses the public ips to cache the content rather than a proxy. I know that i cannot use the apple caching server that wasnt my intention was just after one for youtube videos or other similar video websites.
ricki Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 If you want to cache them create a Linux box with a squid proxy on it.
nathan3388 Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 Don’t want to use a proxy is there any other way or is that the only way?
nathan3388 Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 Shame really the Apple cache server works great and just uses the public ips to cache the connect would of thought someone would of designed a caching server for web traffic with that [emoji23]
