Caching server for youtube without a proxy

Was wondering if there is a piece of software similar to the apple caching server. where it doesn't use proxies but uses the public IP address to cache content. The reason I am asking is because I would love to be able to cache some of the youtube videos that the student play to take some load off our firewall decrypting the videos. If anyone has any software or know of any then could you please help.

I'd be surprised, albeit pleasantly surprised, if Apple's caching server worked with YouTube. Yes for apple updates, and regular web stuff. And most caching servers don't cache large files which tends to exclude videos from the outset.

i was after something that does the same as the apple server where it uses the public ips to cache the content rather than a proxy. I know that i cannot use the apple caching server that wasnt my intention was just after one for youtube videos or other similar video websites.

If you want to cache them create a Linux box with a squid proxy on it.

Don’t want to use a proxy is there any other way or is that the only way?

Shame really the Apple cache server works great and just uses the public ips to cache the connect would of thought someone would of designed a caching server for web traffic with that [emoji23]
