Hi All,

I have got a laptop here that won't let me login either locally or domain.

At start up I enter username and password and press enter as usual but the login screen then just greys out and nothing happens. The computer is not locked as I can move the login dialog box around and the power button works.

Safe mode lets me login but of course I can't change anything to do with the network.

any idea what I can do, or is this a rebuild from scratch job?

Thanks

If you can logon to Windows in Safe Mode, then the problem must be definitely be elsewhere.

Start up the laptop, press F8 and go into Safe Mode. Then go to Control Panel and locate your Display Adapter. In turn (if there's more than one entry), delete the adapters, then restart once you've highlighted and pressed the delete key on each entry. Now reboot. Please note the entry itself will not disappear like you'd expect when normally deleting something!

This'll force Windows to re-detect and re-install the graphics drivers. See if this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions...I have fixed it!

And another one that refused all logins!

I found that if I disabled the network hardware in BIOS then I could login and remove the computer from our domain and then rename it. Then reboot, enable NIC and rejoin domain with new name...problem solved...:)
