iPad Management with Apple Profile Manager

Hi;

 

I am the lead for computing at my school and as a result end up managing the schools IT.

I have inherited a mixed bag of iPads which were all supposed to be managed using MacServer running on a MacMini.

 

Most of the iPads are managed using Profile Manager however there are about 14 which are not, well it looks like they were partially done but the remote managment and enrolment was never done.

 

I need some help with several issues with Profile Manager all of which do not seem to be covered in Apples User Guides!!

 

What is the easiest way to add these iPads to Profile Manager? I am using a way which involves accessing the Mac Server from the iPad itself and then selecting My Devices and then on the iPad installing the Trust and Enrolment Profiles and then clicking on Enrol?

I have devices that will let me install only the Trust Profile or sometimes both but some fail when trying to install the Enrolment Profile and sometimes fail when I click on Enrol?

 

Here is the message I receive:

 

"Profile installation failed the scep server configuration is not supported"

 

I also have a device that seems to have enrolled as it is now listed in Devices as "iPad" but I cannot wipe it, the task stays at pending?

 

What I am doing wrong ?

Having spent many hours fighting with Profile Manager do yourself a favour and get a different system. We’ve tried managing macs and iPads and each time profile manager has broken in some unexplainable way either just sits there with tasks pending not talking to the devices or random issues with as you’ve found devices refusing to connect.

 

I found someone suggesting that Profile Manager was apples proof of concept for testing the managing of devices.

Ours is set up and works fine most of the time. We also have the issue you described and found the fix for this... Wait for it.... Double reboot! Not just 1 reboot. 2. Weird

Essentially so did we, having burnt hours on it we're now Jamf customers.
