I just received a notice regarding updates to the SIMS Teacher App.

It seems to be saying that a new versions of Teacher App and SSM packages will be released simultaneously on the 28th of February.

Why would they not release the new App a couple of weeks before the server change ?A version compatible with both old and new SSM services to avoid the cliff edge ?If I read this correctly on Friday morning 1 March all the Teacher Apps on the devices are going to stop working and need updating on mass..I hope I am wrong and that someone will correct my understanding of the scheduling of these releases !

The notification I was emailed says "The impact on the Teacher App is that from its retirement date (18th March) anyone using ACS will have service requests failing.", my reading of this was the SSM package needs applying ASAP but will server both ACS and the new method, so once SSM has updated you until the 18th March to update all your teacher's devices. Do you have a different understanding of Capita's communications?

Step 1 - Action required by SIMS administrator – update SSM Package

Administrators will need to make sure that the SSM package is updated on the day of the release - Thursday 28th February.

Step 2 - Action required by Teacher App User – update the Teacher App

All Teacher App users will need to download and update the latest Teacher App from the app store. The updated version of the app will be available prior to Thursday 28th February to download. The updated version will work with both the new and old SSM package.

So my reading is that the teachers can get the updated App at some unspecified date BEFORE D-Day but we can't update the server side until the actual day.

I'm gonna go check out the app store now and get back to you.

Thank you both for the replies.

I have just asked for clarification from the help desk and unfortunately they have replied confirming

From the release of the SSM updates, the old version of the app will cease to work.

The new version of the App will be released on the sane day 28 Feb.

I was hoping for a transition window.

My SSM packages updated yesterday and I asked staff to update their Sims Teacher App

Now the Sims Teacher App no longer works

When I try to login to the admin page I get the following error: An error has occurred and it has been logged. If the problem persists please contact your Capita SIMS support team.

When the staff try to login with the app they get: Teacher App Services are offline

I have double checked we are up to date and the services are running

I have a support call with Capita currently open

To save speaking to first line support I'm just trying all the things mentioned in this thread to resolve the "teacher app services are offline".

let's see if updating from .net 4.5.2 does anything.....

Can anyone help? I've updated the app but when the teachers try to login they get 'An error has occured. When trying to get the users detail a Bad Gateway error was returned. If the problem persists please contact your IT support team.'Does anyone have any ideas? I have checked and SSM is ticked to auto update. I'm finding the process confusing at the 'instructions' not at all helpful! Edited by Suyogi

Same here - after making sure the SSM was set to update automatically, and all Teacher Apps were up to date, it was a waste of time as every single one now says 'services are offline'

Logged with capita, but annoying that checking well in advance was pointless!

Anyone know the latest versions of the SSM Packages? I've got Login Service for Teacher App 4.1.95.0 and Data Service for Teacher App 4.1.150.0 but can't tell if they're the latest versions or not.

I got the bad gateway error, and it turned out to be caused by a filtering issue - the ipads worked fine off a hotspot on my phone.

*.servicebus.windows.net needs to be unfiltered - not sure why this suddenly became an issue for us in the last 2 days, but adding that fixed it for us.

From the Capita website:

For reference the versions of the SSM packages will be:

  • capita.teacherapp.clients.login.4.1.95.0
  • capita.teacherapp.clients.data.4.1.150.0

Thanks, at least I know the auto update was working!

now the screwy bit, I've checked my versions against those posted in this thread and they are all good.

However - the admin site is external and should therefore be entirely unaffected by my setup?

This is giving me: [h=2]An error has occured[/h]An error has occured and it has been logged. If the problem persists please contact your Capita SIMS support team.

WTF are Capita playing at?

I can't get the Teacher App or my Admin console to work now - and no response from capita. Guess its a widespread problem. Does the Admin site not connect back through to our onsite SIMS server, which might explain why that's down as well. I've just checked and we've got .NET 4.6.1 as well Edited by Sheridan
