G Suit Groups Admin

Hi All

 

We are using G Suit and I was wondering if it was possible for us to restrict a group so that students could not E-mail the "allstudents" group despite being a member of it whilst still letting staff E-mail it, who are not a memeber? Hope I've Explained that well enough?

 

Any help anyone could give me would be amazing

Hi Rob,

 

We've gone into the group settings for the all students group and removed the Group Members rights. We have then had to add the staff members to the group and then add them as Managers.

You can use Content Compliance Rules to do this. If you have your students in a different organisation to your staff, you can create a content compliance rule at the root level of your directory to reject messages to your allstudents address, but disable that rule on your staff organisation(s) (i.e. so that those parts of your directory won't inherit that rule).

 

Admin -> Apps -> G Suite -> Gmail -> Advanced settings -> Compliance -> Content compliance.

 

Create a rule along the lines of:

 

 

Adjust the expression terms to match the group email address you want. THen navigate to your staff organisation in the tree on the left and disable inheritance of this rule.

Yeah, it's possible, assuming you want anyone who isn't part of the group to email it, but just not the kids, you just have to create a mailing rule and just apply it to your student OU(s)

 

Apps/G Suite/GMail/Advanced Settings

Find your Pupils OU

Scroll down to Compliance

Create a new Content Compliance rule

 

Email messages to affect: Internal - sending

Select If ANY of the following match the message

Add a new expression

Advanced content match / Any enevelop recipient / Matches regex

(?i)(^([email protected]))

 

Just keep adding emails for as many lists as you like.

You can either add them all to one rule (List1@domain|list2@domain|list3@domain) or make an individual expression per email (which is what I've done as it's neater), both will work.

 

3. If the above expresions match, do the following: Reject message

 

The rejection notice option last I knew of doesn't actually work, but it's probably worth setting a rejection notice just in case they make it work again.
