Adding x32 printer drivers to x64 server

Can someone remind me again how you do this. I've got Server 2003 R2 (x64) as my print server and it's playing silly buggers. I always thought that if you connected to the x64 shared printer from an x32 client and it asked for the drivers it then uploads them to the server so it has them. This isn't working (GRRR!!).

The printer is a HP Colour LaserJet 2605dn.

Printer properties, sharing tab and click 'Add additional drivers...'

You can do it though the driver tab on the printer server properties dialog on the server.

Sadly in this case it's no accepting them

Damn. Even though you tick the 'x32' box it comes up with a 'This is not a valid x64 driver' error.

Ah. My fault for not un-ticking the x64 box first. It looks for the x64 drivers first!

Would that be your wall sir?... The one with the dents in it at about head height?

 

Thanks for the tip.. I've not yet had to mess with x64 vs' x32 drivers yet so this saved me a headache or three

Out of interest why bother running an x64 print server, we thought about it when upgrading the servers as everything else went to x64 R2 but for printers it's more hassle than it's worth?

 

Driver support is really patchy and how much real world difference would you see? In the end kept 2 32-bit servers to do print management and SMS 2003
