Smoothwall

Hi everyone,

 

At the moment we have an internal smoothwall server and the license is supplied through the LA as part of our managed internet contract. I'm looking to move away from the LA provided internet and have had some quotes which provide managed filtering in the cloud so we wouldn't need our own internal smoothwall box. The problem is smoothwall does more for us than filter, I use it to dish out DHCP addresses to our VLAN'ed wifi access across virtual interfaces and would need to retain this functionality or buy another product to put it on, there is also the firewall capabilities which are useful.

 

Does anyone know what happens to smoothwall functionality if the license expires? does everything stop working or just the filtering? failing that does anyone have any suggestions for alternative products that don't cost the earth?

Hi @Badaz52,

 

I can't comment on losing the functionality from the Smoothwall box but our hosted Fortigate and Netsweeper in conjunction with our leased line services can dish out IP addresses to VLAN'ed wifi access across virtual interfaces.
