Replacement for Promethean ActivPens

Hi

 

Has anyone had any success at replacing Promethean Activpens with something cheaper?

 

We seem to have had a few pens walk recently, and I am loathe to pay £30 for a set of two if we can get something similar to a stylus for your phone (but thinner) that will do a similar job - we only need it to be able to be used for writing on the board in the scenarios we are looking to replace them in, the right/left click functionality is not of high importance.

Can you confirm which version your after? The thin straight version (ActivBoard 2 I believe) which is grey and orange? If so I might be able to help you out as we have a few. Drop me a PM and we'll work something out.

Have you got any policy in place for charging/re-charging the faculty who have lost the pen? IMHO a technical fault with the pen is different to a "lost" pen.

We are using the ones which are more like a junior school handwriting pen (v3 I believe) - we don't necessarily need the original pens, very happy with an alternative too

As the departments have no money, and we just need to get things up and running, the allocation of who pays for it is not an issue at the minute, just enabling teaching and learning.

Some departments in schools claim that all year long, until suddenly towards the end of the academic year - there's a bunch of cheap tablets off eBay turn up on my desk asking them to be setup etc. so they had the money somewhere.

 

No I understand that the priority is for the teaching and learning. But a teacher losing a pen, or taking it home in their pencilcase, locking it in their locker or desk drawers so only they and they alone can use it etc (which I've all seen) also affects teaching and learning the same way a faulty pen would.

 

It's probably down to the view that some people hold that all IT equipment is a consumable not an asset - until that view changes, nothing will change.
