Meru Networks

Hi Fellow EduGeekers,

 

I have a school that has 16 wireless AP's provided by Meru, however as we now know they have been bought out by Fortinet. I have 2 questions that hopefully someone could answer!

 

1. Does Meru have a licence on how many Access points you can attach to a controller?

2. Where can i now purchase new Meru/Fortinet Access points that will work within my network?

I do believe a controller gives you access to 50 or 100 APs, it's a shame you didn't ask this question last year, I had to dump 52 of their AGN APs.

 

IIRC, it's the maintenance cost that will get ya, the maintenance cost of the controller was quoted to me at around £3k a year.

 

How many more APs are you looking at getting, as I actually setup my own Unifi controller (it's software based) and ran the two networks next to one and other, gradually replacing the APs, with using Windows RADIUS on an NPS server, and there wasn't a headache at all, people could roam between them. I replaced all of my APs for around £4.2k and it seems to have solved a lot of issues. Now I cannot say if that is because their controller is so much nicer to use, or if it was because I wen from AGN to an AC network.
