Shadow_Walker Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Need some help on this as have no idea what to go for. The primary school has a speaker on the floor which connects to the computer using a phono lead. The speaker is completely broke and need a new one but don't know what to go for. Would something like this do? https://rocheav.co.uk/audio-pasystems-roche-250wpa-693
synaesthesia Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Yes, perfect. Behringer do a good range too, I bought one for a primary a while ago with USB & SD inputs to play MP3s directly from too, every so easy.
dhicks Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Would something like this do? https://rocheav.co.uk/audio-pasystems-roche-250wpa-693 We bought one of these on Amazon for around £150: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MRY9KD9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ...and were impressed enough to buy a second one. Has an internal battery and can do bluetooth connections, and also has an audio output so you can link a couple together to cover a larger area. There's also a shower-proof cover available for use outside and it will sit on a standard speaker mount pole. The only feature it lacks is somewhere to actually put the two wireless mics it comes with, but we found some industrial-strength velcro solved that problem. 1

SamanthaD Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Looks fine for a primary - word of warning, Roche's website is not the most reliable source of information, best to call them up and have a chat first. They often have items listed that are out of stock / end of line and it hasn't been updated. (I've been bitten a few times by them....) I'm guessing this is the 12" one, rather than the 15" as there's a near identical page for a near identical speaker for £75 more (webpage states no FM tuner or bluetooth on the cheaper one, but look at the spec sheet on the Download tab... identical. See what I mean about the website?) however this is probably better for you - 12" carries spoken word a lot easier than 15", lighter in weight and actually just as loud. Only downside is not quite as much low end, but unless you want chest thumping lows that shouldn't be an issue.
Shadow_Walker Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 Does this seem alright to everyone? https://www.avsl.com/product/178.854UK-qxpaplus-portable-pa-with-uhf-usbsdfm-bluetooth
SamanthaD Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 One question to ask - do you need the battery functionality? If not you're adding a lot of unnecessary weight to the speaker. As for the qtx model - much of a muchness at this price range. I do love the promotional video though, UHF microphones for reduced interference - even though it's in Channel 70 which is probably the most crowded piece of bandwidth for radio mic users!
dhicks Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Does this seem alright to everyone? It looks very similar to the Amazon one I linked to above - same set of functions and input / outputs on the back panel, just slightly re-arranged. Should work nicely enough - the battery doesn't actually add all that much weight, I can pick ours up in one hand where I struggled with our older units. The mics aren't anything fancy, and you tend to get rustling / rattling sounds from them if they are used hand-held, but they're pretty good for this kind of price.
