mole Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Morning all We are looking into getting rid of physical Bluray players and getting internal Bluray drives and software (PC - Windows 10) to play Blurays, DVDs, CDs. Does anyone else have any experience of which software is good to use, roll out - site wide license via image and it - software and drive - must play back multi region/be able to be region free and stay region free. Any advice would be gratefully received! thanks
synaesthesia Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Is it really worth the outlay? How many blurays do you play? VLC plays them just fine... however in this day and age, is it needed? PC's rarely come with optical drives, consoles are being released without them... is it going to be a £lot of money for little reward?
mole Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 I agree, however. We need to provide the option should it arise - film studies do use them and can use any bookable room they wish to and currently it is a sh££ load of money with dedicated commercial Bluray players,
PotNoodleTech Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 If you got th connectivity (as in a spare HDMI feed to the projector) then I would always go for external dvd/blu ray player. So much faster and more reliable, and doesn't tie the PC up, the teacher can do other things whilst the movie is playing. Commercial blue ray players? Sounds very overpriced Whats wrong with £30-40 ones from currys? Fit and forget. 2
mole Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Reasons for professional type ones are it needs to be rack-mountable, controllable via RS232 or LAN, needs analogue & digital audio outputs, also controlled via Crestron control panels so requires solid controls and all configurations can be saved to a file to load on when installing. 1

Fair enough, but the PC with powerDVD you are looking at implementing will still do none of the above?
mole Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Yeah there doesn't seem to be anything out there right now, no multiregion drives and the drives there are are like £40, and the software still seems to be cyberlink powerdvd. Hmmmm.
