steve_nfi Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I have a problem with my admin PC. A little while ago the DVD drive disappeared from the system. It just couldn't be seen. After a couple of reboots it appeared again and was usable. It then disappeared completely. Assuming that it was a faulty drive I replaced it with a nice shiny new one. This had been working fine for few weeks, then started being a bit erratic and has now disappeared completely again. Can anyone shed any light on what might be causing this?
jmcdermott Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 fist i would check the ide channel on the motherboard. second does it disappear completely from the BIOS as well or just windows? 1
Michael Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Have you tried changing the IDE or SATA cable between the DVD drive and the motherboard? And when the DVD drive disappears from My Computer, can you still physically eject a disc from the drive? 1
steve_nfi Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 The drive dissappears completely. I've just checked the BIOS and it's not in there. I haven't tried a new IDE cable yet. I'll will try that later when I have a bit more time. Machine won't even eject, as if no power were going to it.
steve_nfi Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 I have just put a new IDE cable in and it's working fine again. Thanks for you help.:-)
