I have a problem with my admin PC.

A little while ago the DVD drive disappeared from the system. It just couldn't be seen. After a couple of reboots it appeared again and was usable. It then disappeared completely. Assuming that it was a faulty drive I replaced it with a nice shiny new one. This had been working fine for few weeks, then started being a bit erratic and has now disappeared completely again.

Can anyone shed any light on what might be causing this?

Have you tried changing the IDE or SATA cable between the DVD drive and the motherboard?

And when the DVD drive disappears from My Computer, can you still physically eject a disc from the drive?

The drive dissappears completely. I've just checked the BIOS and it's not in there. I haven't tried a new IDE cable yet. I'll will try that later when I have a bit more time. Machine won't even eject, as if no power were going to it.:(
