karldenton Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Hi I’m looking for some advice with a frustrating issue. We have just had a school join our trust with a .sch.uk domain name. The council have released the tag for the domain to 1and1 as I requested. It now turns out 1and1 can’t transfer in a .sch.uk domain. Nominet shows the registrar now as 1and1 The issue is I’d like the tag to go to another provider who can work with the .sch.uk domain. I’ve found a provider 1and1 day they can’t release the tag as it’s not registered at their end, yet the council say the tag has gone from them and can’t change. Any ideas which route to go down now? Thanks.
Jonah Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Nominet should be able to do this - last time we had something similar I’m sure there was an online portal to sort it. As for providers who can host school domains, we’ve used Vidahost/TSOHost without issues.
NokiX Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Nominet tend to charge for manual tag changes unfortunately, not sure if they do for .sch.uk domains though as I've never tried it. Vidahost/TSO do support .sch.uk domains but keep in mind that both are owned by parent companies which are ultimately owned by GoDaddy. Krystal will support them if you contact them about it but ultimately it's about the functionality you need from the provider which should decide who you use.
karldenton Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 Thanks everyone. I’ve sorted a provider - we’ll only need it for O365 dns entries. I’ll phone nominet in the morning to see if they can help
mowgli82 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I did this, nominet assigned the tag for me for free as goodwill gesture. 1
MatthewL Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I had issues transferring my .co.uk out from 1and1, managed to get logged onto the Nominet portal as myself and update my tags in there. Made it easy to transfer to 123 reg then.

Thankfully Nominet are pretty helpful in almost every situation so I'd always recommend contacting them if you can't solve an issue with your domain provider for any .uk domain.
MatthewL Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I cannot fault them, far batter than 1&1 and does everything I need. Quick and simple to register and had everything sorted in less than 30 minutes if I remember rightly.
