Is this projector Compataible with SMART Board® M600 Series

We recently purchased a NEC UM361X Projector because the other Projector which was a Smart UF70 went bad. Anyway I was trying to hookup the Smart Board to this projector so the students can have touch control and I'm unable to find any of the connections that go together on the back of this new projector. I'ts leading me to believe that these are not compatible with each other. The connections I'm holding are from the Smart Board.

Most (all?) smartboards are connected via USB to the computer - and do not need any support from the projector. You may choose to feed the USB through the projector if it has USB, but I'm guessing you will just use VGA for the projector.

 

I have forgotten where the USB connector is on this type of board - but you should be able to find it.

I think on that one the pen tray plugs into a little box attached to the bottom center of the board and the USB to the computer plugs into that board as well. You will likely lose the ability to turn on the projector from the pen tray, but if the computer video goes to the projector and the computer USB goes to the smartboard, then things should work.

 

How was replacing a smart projector with the NEC? Any complications with the nuts and bolts side of it?

The NEC Came with a mounting bracket so we just used that. The issue I found yesterday is that the Pen Tray tray has a small little connector looks like the end of a laptop charger that's attached to another serial cable that leads to the projector. I haven't tried the USB cable from the pen tray to the computer. How would the pen tray receive power I'm at a loss sorry.

I think the serial cable to the projector was bringing the power to the pen try, so now you probably need a small 5 Volt 2 Amp power adapter to plug it in on its own.

 

This looks like the official version, but I'm sure the same thing can be found much cheaper if you don't have something on hand that will work.
