jimmy_2k Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Hi all I have been trying to deploy some applications to our Windows 10 devices. Half will complete successfully and the other half will come up with "another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install." I have resolved the issue on a single devices by restarting the Windows installer service. The backed up SCCM deployments then fly though and its all sorted. Is before I potentially cause myself a big issue. Should I just put a script out or GPO to start the service on start up or will I live to regret it? Any ideas or other solutions welcome!
DalekSec Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 GPO will just be a plaster, problem will still be there lurking!! What version of SCCM are you on? and have you the latest update?
jimmy_2k Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 GPO will just be a plaster, problem will still be there lurking!! What version of SCCM are you on? and have you the latest update? Very true. I hate plasters, they just tend to fall off when you least expect it! I'm on 2012, Version 1710. Could this be a central problem? I thought it was likely to be another Windows 10 glitch!
jimmy_2k Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 I'll run windows update. I thought it was auto updating but it hasn't been...

I thought it was likely to be another Windows 10 glitch! IIRC the SCCM version needs to be kept up to date to deal with the newer Windows 10 Versions. We are currently on SCCM 1802 and running Windows 10 1803 without hitch.
jimmy_2k Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 Ok thanks. I'll run all the MS updates. Will this update SCCM or do I need to download and install the latest version..
DalekSec Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 In SCCM go to Administration -> Overview -> Updates and Servicing, you'll see all the SCCM updates in there. After the updates you'll have to reinstall the SCCM client on your device to manage it again,
jimmy_2k Posted October 24, 2018 Author Posted October 24, 2018 Thanks for that. I've run the pre requisite check and its come back failed :-(. I'm trying to run the windows updates at the moment and a couple of those have failed too... ugh..
ataylor Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 On the machines where you have "another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install" is there another install hanging in the background? trying force stopping and installer services and see what is logged in event log - see if you can find the problematic application.
free780 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 (edited) Looks like 1710 isn't supported for managing 1803. Time for a Configmgr upgrade to 1806. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/configs/support-for-windows-10 Edited October 24, 2018 by free780

DalekSec Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Or.... configure automatic client updates https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/clients/manage/upgrade/upgrade-clients-for-windows-computers#to-configure-automatic-client-upgrades We updated our SCCM on Monday, i didn't even know we had this turned on! Old place didn't hence my confusion.
free780 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 It's useful. It can't bypass the maintainence windows though. I just scripted it. I would try and keep up to date with SCCM Upgrades. Don't upgrade until the first hotfix is out though.
jimmy_2k Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 Ok i've just updated SCCM to 1806 and force reinstalled the client onto a laptop. I have tried to deploy a new application to the laptop and once again I get the error another installation is already in progress. I have tried to restart the windows installer service by force and from the services.msc menu. Windows won't let me... Any more ideas? I'm totally stuck at the moment
jimmy_2k Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 I'm stuck with this issue still. It seems to be confined to our HP laptops, everything else installs fine. I've been trying to install a wagent for netsweeper and once again i'm getting another installation is still in progress. If I go onto the affected machines and stop the Windows 32bit installer process which is running at 32% CPU, the software then installs. I have kept up with the SCCM updates etc. I've now got to do 50 manual installs!
BOOT Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 If they have it.. try updating the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers.
Whisky Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Is it the same application that is in progress?
jimmy_2k Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 I can't find which application is indeed in progress. The Majority of the ProBook 650 batch have the issue but not all of them
Whisky Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Have a look in or post your AppEnforce.log and AppDiscovery.log files to see if that highlights any issues.
