Cloud based DNS web filtering provider

Hi everyone,

 

Just wondering if anyone is using any cloud-based firewall providers for web filtering at DNS level, we are looking at rolling out Guest Wifi but want it completely separate from our on-premise filtering.

 

This really comes down to the cost as well for the cloud-based providers, I've had a look online but they all seem to be American based. Just wondering if anybody could recommend any solution?

Hi. This is exactly the way we have done it in the past. Umbrella works well for this and has a free version. However, remember that all dns solutions are easily circumvented with a modicum of ingenuity..they are often free and easily tick a box.

I know you said you want it completely separate from on-prem filtering but the easiest solution is simply to vLAN it off and send it through your existing filter.

 

If you get everything setup correctly then there's no security risk.

I'm going to be a little bias, but just to let you know Securly can provide DNS filtering for guest networks and has support/infrastructure this side of the pond.

 

I work on the techy side of things not sales, but if you feel like testing it out ping me a PM and I'll get an account set-up for you.

 

Otherwise, I agree with Primus, if you have an on-prem solution already you could VLAN it into your existing filter separate from the rest of your network. I would test that you can't bounce off that filter's proxy back into the internal network and access intranet servers though. Sometimes you need to add a few rules to lock that down too!

It is then free for students, which seems to be the way things are going, and a charge for staff.

Perhaps you should present this solution like any other, here's a solution to your problem boss, it costs this....if you don't want it the outcome is this....
