deano3693 Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Hi, We had a new Fire Alarm over the Summer and it can trigger email alerts (currently these just send to me). The School Business Manager would like me to find a way to turn this email alert which states wether it is a Fire Alarm or a Lockdown drill into a Desktop Alert that appears on all desktops clearly stating that it is indeed a fire drill and to evacuate or a Lockdown drill in which case follow the procedure on your desktop. Anyone aware of anything that will do this?! We have Netsupport Notify but this currently doesn't do this. Basically, the idea behind this is so that it is automatic and doesn't rely on someone being in the IT office to send out a message to screens because apparently staff can't work out the difference between a continous ringing bell and one that rings with gaps in it to determine wether to evacuate or not! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Apparently we can't just forward the email to All Staff either because most teachers don't have there emails open whilst they are teaching ...
Jamman960 Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 I guess the quickest way would be to have your mail client(outlook can definitely do this) run a script upon receiving the message that interacts with Notify via commandline - https://support.netsupportsoftware.com/kb/asp/kbprovider.asp?gettd=761&lang=EN&xsl=https%3A//support.netsupportsoftware.com/kb/TechDoc.xsl this would rely on the mail client being open somewhere, there's probably a lighter weight app you could use for this that'd sit on a server somewhere though.
MatthewL Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 You need to train your staff to understand the difference in the two tones. If its so similar then maybe changes need to be made but you cannot rely on them been in front of a computer hence why you have an alarm.

MW_NetSupport Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I'm pleased to report we have now got this successfully setup and working. I'd just like to say a big thank you to @deano3693 for his time and help in getting the solution up and running. I'll be getting the code documented and passed to our support team over the next few days so they will be able to help any of our other customers looking for a similar solution. 1
