mikeprice Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Hi all I have been asked by a local charity/museum/discovery centre to help them get some 3d printers - Ultimaker 2+ - working and useful. I have been round there and looked at them (I'm not properly registered etc at the moment so I can't do much more until next week) and they seem OK but one printer VERY slowly As I have never had a chance to play with a 3D printer before any help/advice/gotchas would be very welcome. Obviously I have found the manufactues web site (I hate using youtube help video instead of manuals) I am assuming that the slow printing is due to blocked nozels - so I am planning of replacing the nozel and/or cleaning it out any help gratefull received Thanks Mike
JOrdan01070 Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 HI Mike when you say slow printing is this the movement of the print head or the extrusion of filament, also when the filament is extruding is it inconsistent. It sounds like they have a couple of the same machines if so was the same print file used on each machine. Any grinding noises made on the one printing slowly. Jordan

crc-ict Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 If you are not familiar with 3D printers, they can be much slower to produce anything than you expect. Depending on settings etc, even something simple like a whistle can take an hour or more to produce. as @JOrdan01070 said, look out for slow movement of the mechanisms, although even this could be intentional depending on the object file, settings etc.
mikeprice Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 Thanks I haven't actually seen them printing yet so I am going from what the teacher said (!) As far as I can tell from questioning her, they have 2 identical printers and she tried the same file (from the same SD card) as a test. machine 2 printers 2 little robots with consistent speed Machine 1 initially printed the same robot perfectly well - but much slower. There was no report of any grinding noises etc. but she did say that the last time she tried machine 1 it was trying to print the robot on the bottom of the nozzle rather than on the glass base. She also said something about having to put some UHU glue on the glass base before printing - is this correct? Thanks Mike
JOrdan01070 Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Mike UHU is just to help with bed adhesion, sounds like the nozzle is set to far from the bed if its stuck on the nozzle. I would look and bed levelling and see if you can upgrade the firmware on the one having problems, if you cannot upgrade the settings can you reset the printer back to factory settings.
